We will be starting with another round of speech therapy, to start on January 11. Ours goals there are to get her to use more action words, and to string two or three words together. They had been goals in our original round, but we had been unsuccessful. We did make some progress though, so it wasn't all bad. She developed from a 13-month-old's level of speech to an 18-month-old's level of speech. Now we're going to try to increase that. We are also looking at enrolling her in a more advanced sign language class. Not advanced as in for novices, but as in a step above the Infant and Toddler sign classes offered at the Early Years Centres. They were wonderful programs, but we need her communicating beyond "milk", "more", "eat", "all done" and "thank you". Our hope for this is that it will lessen her frustration and hopefully the tantrums too.
2010 will also bring us the MRI results. The results will be posted here on this blog on January 6th or 7th, so keep watching for them. 2010 will also bring us her genetic testing results for 22q13. Unfortunately, those won't be available until mid-to-late-February. 2010 will bring Occupational Therapy, to help with her pica and her sensory disorder. Our hopes aren't to completely rid her of the pica or the sensory issues, but to lessen them as well. We are being optimistic, not giving ourselves false hope. We know deep down she may never overcome her pica.
That is what we do know for 2010. But we know there is lots more to come for Zoe in 2010 that we don't know.
Keep her in your thoughts and prayers!!
